DALITE 35, AN ALUMINUM BOAT FROM THE 90S
3D design by Dream Racer Boats workshop
A sailing boat with a rich history. In the saloon of the ship, hidden under many landmarks, a map of the world. In the bottom of the drawers, multiple flags. A bow sunk after landing in Brazil. In short, a boat that has come a long way, but that is far from having bowed out. This project, the Dalite 35 Magdalena, is a typical example of an aluminum boat refit based on the 3R concept » (Re)think. (Re)build. (Re)fit », proposed by Dream Racer Boats.
A boat signed by Jean Francois André.
Let’s get back to the plan. Jean François André also has a very rich history, as he tells it in his book « Louvoyages« . We discover the story of his professional career as an architect and sailboat builder.
His activities are punctuated by long navigations. More than twenty years of long-distance sailing, between the tropics and cold regions, with his wife Sylvie, who participated partly in the writing of this book. Jean François is a naval architect, specialized in the construction of aluminum sailboats and more specifically of integral-centreboard yachts. We can mention some boat models like the Cordova and the Patago.

However, the Dalite 35 is not the architect’s first project. This dinghy full, with a well-filled logbook, requires a complete update, needing a visit to the shipyard. For this project, the first lines of the specifications concern the integration of new layout modules in the forepeak as well as an overhaul of the galley. An update of all the safety elements was also on the agenda.

Installation of a shower space in the front point
In collaboration with Jean François André, Dream Racer Boats used the opportunity to make some technical improvements to the aluminum hull which was damaged by electrolysis. The deck also benefited from a small refit. Indeed, in order to create a real shower space in the front part of the boat, Dream Racer Boats installed a hatch coaming, in order to offer the best headroom.
Dream Racer Boats has also changed the whole electrical and electronic system. A gas and hot water system was also installed onboard. The objective of this interior and exterior works was to improve performance and comfort on board but also to ensure more safety.
For the choice of materials and finishes, we have worked on preserving the identity of the boat. The resulting interior design respects the original atmosphere. Additionally, it brings more brightness with large light surfaces enhanced by touches of solid moabi, where we adjusted the color of the varnish to respect the original massifs. Indeed, certain areas of the boat such as the saloon seat or the aft cabin have been retained. The challenge was to design the new parts in accordance with the original design of this experienced boat.
An aluminum boat refit that meets the extreme conditions of a nordic sailing trip
The refit of this boat was designed for a northbound navigation and a long distance trip. Our design office oriented the refit to the particularities of this sailing program, in hostile environments. As a result, a wooden stove and heating system were installed on board. Dream Racer Boats also worked on the issue of safety and autonomy of the boat.
The refit was entirely designed to cope with extreme temperatures, humidity and wind. Essential factors to take into account for Nordic excursions. This Dalite 35 is also well sized in terms of energy, water and storage. The last important point on which the design office focused was the comfort of life onboard. The goal was to enable the skipper to live onboard all year round, thanks to complete equipment associated with a functional layout.
