L’IROISE 48 : A 2023 novelty to be discovered at the La Rochelle boat show
Perspective view by the naval architecture firm Pierre Delion
The Iroise 48 was born from the meeting of two enthusiasts. One for sailing and regattas, the architect Pierre Delion. And the second, Loïc Cheynet, owner of the Bord à Bord (BAB) shipyard, with experience of ocean cruising. The Iroise 48 is an evolution of the Iroise 46. This yacht was built around ten years ago by the founder of the BAB company. The special feature of these yachts, like other models produced by the shipyard such as the Sealion 36 and the VOLTA 12.20, is their twin-keel configuration. This particular feature offers a number of advantages that are not often seen on the market.
A boat designed by Pierre Delion
Founded in September 2001, Pierre Delion Architecture navale is a naval architecture firm. The agency designs boats for pleasure craft and the professional world. Both for sea and river navigation.
First and foremost, the Iroise 48 was designed following discussions between a number of players. The architect, the shipyard and five experienced sailors scattered around the world. From Singapore to the United States, via Réunion and mainland France. By actively listening to everyone’s experiences and suggestions, we were able to draw up precise specifications that met everyone’s needs. One of the objectives was to bring modern lines by working on the design to give it a slender character.

Secondly, the Iroise 48 is not architect Pierre Delion’s first project. We can mention the ROVER 12, a charter boat chartered by the company Kheops Marine. Bord à Bord and Dream Racer Boats continue to work together. In October 2022, the two companies joined forces to create a new fitting centre in Plestin Les Grêves. The fitting-out of this two-masted yacht marks the launch of the new IROISE range. The aim is to offer practical, elegant and sustainable marine fittings.

Last but not least, the Iroise 48 offers pleasant performance both at sea and at anchor. With a bright saloon and fittings designed for long-distance cruising, particularly in high latitudes.
The interior fittings are carried out by qualified craftsmen. The joinery is designed in accordance with Pierre Delion’s plans. Particular attention has been paid to the choice of materials and finishes to create a bright, calm and uncluttered atmosphere in light, neutral tones.
To conclude, in terms of materials and finish, we have endeavoured to preserve the identity of the boat. This is a boat made from aluminium, and we’ve paid particular attention to the sourcing of the raw materials. The resulting interior design respects the marine atmosphere, while adding more luminosity with large, light surfaces enhanced by touches of solid bamboo, the colour of which will have been adjusted.
