Dream Racer Boats takes you aboard Charlie Dalin’s former Figaro 2: discover her refit for her new life! This boat has been prepared for a project that combines racing and cruising. For more information on the Figaro Chou-Fleur FRA 94, and to find out more about its history, please read our article on the subject.
New refit : a turnkey project
The aim of our start-up is to improve this tried and tested boat. For this refit, comfort features were added to the boat and an atmosphere was created. The selection of materials, the work on ergonomics and practicality have enabled this racing boat to be fitted out while retaining its Solitaire functions and performance.
Inside and out, the aim of this refit is to deliver a turnkey boat that meets a new sailing programme.
On the outside, the first thing you notice is the new colour of the deck. Then we discover the delphinière added to the bow and the waterline similar to the Figaro in the Solitaire. A winning bet for the exterior refit!
Handcrafted
Inside the Figaro 2, the first feature is the instrument panel. It is made entirely of sandwich panels. It has been designed for quick and easy access to the wiring network in the event of maintenance or a breakdown. There are also comfort features such as indirect lighting management (e.g. engine compartment lighting), the interior audio system, the battery controller and its shore charger. The original NKE dubbed electronics are overhauled and labelled to make them easier to understand and use.
The Figaro 2’s chart table has been built in the same way as the instrument panel, and designed for DIY (Do It Yourself) assembly. Its large, open work surface makes it comfortable to sit on. It has a lower compartment for the computer, storage for binoculars, practical storage for small and medium-sized accessories, a pocket and cable routing.
Interior fittings
Then we made a trunk that opens quickly and easily to access the keel porthole. This compartment can be used as a water tank for the kitchenette (waste water fresh water). To complete the chart table, this trunk can then be transformed into a meridian-style seat by adding cushions.
As far as freshwater distribution is concerned, we took our inspiration from our PlugPlay furniture concept. This means that the water system (tanks – water generator) is autonomous, removable and can be dismantled, with customised water capacity management inside your boat.
For safety aboard the Figaro 2, we have installed handrails, including one integrated into the companionway. The companionway has been reworked to bring it closer to cruising standards, with a smoother, less steep descent.
The steps are made from Iroko wood. This exotic, durable wood is ideal for both indoor and outdoor use. It does not require preservative treatment, so it offers both ecological and economic benefits. Iroko wood is also renowned for its evenness, and is moderately heavy.
For more storage space on board the boat, we installed several units from our range of textile furniture. They were made from old sails and colour-coded to reflect the boat’s identity.
A personalised on-board atmosphere
For the atmosphere, we wanted to keep in line with the history of this boat. The MACIF team and its skippers have left their mark on ocean racing on this Figaro. That’s why we’ve paid particular attention to the identity of each piece of equipment, working on the details, such as the colour of the stripes on the textile crews, which refer to the colour of TEAM MACIF.
For this refit, we opted for a Zebrano veneer which, with its striped appearance, gives it a geometric feel. The combination of the orthogonal shape of the map table, the straight lines of the Zebrano wood and the midnight blue creates an atmosphere of racing and maritime sport.
Equipment to suit your needs
The Dream Racer Boats concept of (Re)thinking. (Re)building. (Re)fit out is to adapt a boat to a new sailing programme, while retaining the boat’s originality and performance. We offer you an à la carte service. To simplify the renovation process, we have developed, and continue to create, layout, equipment and accessory kits. Today, we offer a Figaro 2 catalogue in which each module can be customised.
The equipment produced for the Figaro 2 is offered in small series and can be customised (choice of finishes and materials used: carbon, flax fibre, bamboo fibre). The equipment is 100% manufactured in our workshops using selected suppliers close to home.
These kits have also been developed for DIY (Do It Yourself) applications, with the aim of meeting requests from far away.
Finally, for made-to-measure projects, the virtual simulation service helps you to visualise your future equipment or boat interior.
See you soon on the water or around your next project !
