DIRREN 50
When residential comfort meets the demands of spaciousness. The Dirren 50, a design by François Lucas created in collaboration with our design firm DRB CONCEPT for the interior layout.
Each new model has its own identity.
Today, we present the launch of the Dirren 50, a 50-foot sailboat developed by the Dirren shipyard, a specialist in aluminum metalwork.
This collaboration arose following our participation in the Grand Pavois boat show, where we exhibited a Cordova 45 with an interior design by DRB. Impressed by our approach and expertise, the Dirren shipyard entrusted us with the support of this ambitious new project.
The Dirren 50 is based on a proven design: the Ultra 50 plan by François Lucas. It is constructed of red cedar plywood / epoxy resin and is intended for training Indian Army personnel in offshore navigation techniques.
With the Dirren 50, this design evolves into an aluminum version, combined with a composite sprayhood. The model presented features twin tillers and a cockpit with a sheltered maneuvering and watch area. This configuration is specifically designed for solo sailing.
Why this construction method?
For Yann, manager of the Dirren shipyard, aluminum was the obvious choice. Drawing on his expertise in metal fabrication, he highlights the qualities of this material: robustness, durability, and deformation capacity, a major asset in terms of safety during long voyages.
Beyond the material, Yann has taken the gamble of bringing together recognized specialists in each field in order to develop a new generation of long-distance cruising sailboats combining performance, safety and comfort.
Our mission in this project focuses primarily on:
– Interior ergonomics during navigation,
– Comfort on board at anchor,
– Technical support on materials,
– Selection of equipment and onboard systems.
During our initial meeting at the construction site, Yann also discovered our expertise in interior design, encompassing both traditional solid wood work and higher-performance composite furniture solutions. This expertise is made possible by our comprehensive mastery of technical panel manufacturing.
A contemporary vision of long-distance travel, between light, softness and new materials.
The objectives of comfort, lightness and brightness are paramount.
Since this boat is designed for long voyages with extended stays on board, its layout must be highly nautical while also offering maximum comfort to its occupants. Therefore, we draw heavily on the design and materials of luxury residences, while never losing sight of the environment this boat will encounter.

Development plan
The version shown features an owner’s cabin with an ensuite bathroom. The spacious saloon, partitioned by the keel trunk, opens directly onto the galley. In the passageway leading to the workshop, there are ventilated vegetable bins and open shelving. To starboard, this version offers an aft guest cabin with an ensuite bathroom. Within easy reach of the cockpit, there is a large watch area equipped with a fold-down berth and a large chart table. This prime location offers panoramic views and allows for efficient and comfortable watches sheltered from the elements.

Moodboard
We selected these materials according to several criteria: their innovative nature, the CSR commitment of the manufacturers, the traceability and sourcing of materials, as well as the valorization of production scraps through upcycling in order to allow the creation of new products.

The layout features soft, harmonious lines with plenty of radii for safe movement at sea. The upholstery is generous and inviting. The pastel hues combine the brightness of large, light-colored surfaces with the warmth of wood.
