First of all, the Opium 39 is a racing-cruising monohull equipped with a lifting keel. This magnificent Wauquiez yacht owes its signature to Marc Lombard. Its contemporary design and performance make it an excellent cruiser-racer.
Inspired by the 60′ Open in ocean racing
Inspired by the 60′ Open ocean racers, the Opium 39 offers unique sensations at sea, as well as providing a level of comfort on board that is particularly attractive in this category of yacht. Her planing, powerful hull guarantees performance in all points of sail, while her elegantly curved deck and vast cockpit are ideal for all manoeuvres. The carefully selected rigging and fittings are designed for long-distance cruising.
A second project, also focused on performance.
Former owner of Eric Delamarre’s Figaro 2 (our second project in 2019), this regatta owner is consulting us on a second project to reduce the weight and improve the performance of his Wauquiez, a fast cruising yacht. It all began with the conversion of the interior woodwork and certain exterior parts to carbon fibre, in response to the ambition of an experienced owner. Initially, some of the original doors made of plywood coated with a fine wood species were replaced by doors made of sandwich panels with a foam core and carbon fibre skins. A considerable weight saving, from 8.4kg to 3.2kg per door. Other doors were replaced with textile doors selected by the customer.
This Wauquiez sailboat is a mix of materials that creates a neat, sober design.
The leaves of the saloon table and the map table have also been made from sandwich panels, creating a stylish ambience in a wooded environment. A mix of materials for a neat, sober design. We also chose a mirror varnish for these rooms, contrasted with a matt varnish for the floors, which have a higher foam density. Finally, pre-preg carbon handrails have replaced the original wooden and mirror-polished stainless steel ones. This addition ensures a secure grip, reminiscent of the wheel bars and racing finish. Finally, the fibreglass cockpit bench has been replaced by a carbon bench that can be dismantled and easily handled due to its weight. The first objective was a success, saving a total of 69kg on all the modified parts and giving the boat a new look with a few touches of added carbon.
